چکیده

In this paper, internal low-volume antenna structures for mobile terminals are studied. The work concentrates on the possibilities to reduce the volume of mobile terminal antenna elements by efficiently utilizing the radiation of the currents on the mobile terminal chassis. Essentially nonresonant coupling elements are used to optimally couple to the dominating characteristic wavemodes of the chassis. The antenna structures are tuned to resonance with matching circuits. During the last few years, the approach has achieved growing interest—also among industrial manufacturers of mobile terminals. There exist, however, no systematical feasibility and performance studies of the idea. During the work, two antenna models with very low-volume coupling elements are designed and in total four prototypes are constructed. The simulation and measurement results show that the studied antenna concept is a very promising alternative for traditional antenna technologies. The presented analysis provides useful and novel information for the designs of the future low-profile and low-volume mobile terminal antennas.

Channel capacity of dual-element modified PIFA array on small mobile terminal

A study on the MIMO channel capacity of a modified dual-element planar inverted-F antenna (PIFA) array is presented. The dual-element PIFA array consists of two modified PIFAs which are mounted on a small mobile terminal operating at 2.5 GHz. The relationship between mutual coupling and channel capacity is analysed by comparing the modified dual-element PIFA array with a conventional dual-eleme...

In this paper a novel method for computing the radiation pattern and also the input impedance of a planar rectangular micro-strip antenna array with consideration of mutual coupling and mutual impedance is presented. Each two triangles with a common edge make an Edge element or RWG. Any such edge element is considered as an infinitesimal dipole. The electrical currents over each dipole can be c...

Resonator-Based Analysis of the Combination of Mobile Handset Antenna and Chassis

In this paper, the performance of the mobile phone handset antenna–chassis combination is analyzed based on an approximate decomposition of the waves on the structure into two resonant wavemodes: the antenna-element wavemode and the chassis wavemode. A double resonator equivalent circuit model is presented and used to estimate the impedance bandwidth and the respective distribution of radiation...

Null Steering GPS Array in the Presence of Mutual Coupling

A null steering GPS antenna array is designed in this paper. In the proposed method, the exact full wave antenna radiation properties with the effect of mutual couplings and nearby scatterers are considered to calculate the array steering vector, precisely. Although the proposed method is not constrained by the array geometry and the antenna element specifications, a five patch antenna elements...
